Your Fresno State's Bulldogs shifted to Southern California this past weekend competing in the Oak Tree Open and Floria Financial Invite. Both tournaments were held at Oak Tree Lanes in Diamond Bar and hosted by Vayle Floria of Floria Financial Services. Vayle is the long time host of these tournaments for nearly twenty years and is the most generous tournament director there is. He once again covered the lineage expenses for all of the competing teams for the first day of the weekend's tournaments.
Day 1 was competed on a 42' (6 to 1) pattern at Oak Tree Lanes in Diamond Bar. After the dust settled, ASU took home its second title of the new season. Finishing second was GCU just 28 pins back. The Bulldogs varsity had a rough day finishing in 5th while the junior varsity finished 3rd.
Individually, the Bulldogs were led by Spencer Norvell (207 average) who finished 11th individually and Jarrett Smith who finished 19th with a 196 average. The junior varsity team was led by junior Sean Romero (192 average-24th) Sean also shot his high college game with 278!
Sunday's competition was competed on a very difficult 39' (2 to 1) pattern. Once again, the Bulldogs varsity struggled finished in 5th place. Arizona Christian University took home the title, the first in their program history. Congrats to ACU! Grand Canyon University finished 2nd again, this time 168 pins behind ACU. Our Junior Varsity team finished 4th in the second tournament.
In the second tournament, the Bulldogs were once again led by senior Spencer Norvell who finished 6th with a 200 average. For the Junior Varsity, Miguel Acosta finished 23rd with a 176 average. Only 6 players posted averages above 200 on what was the most difficult pattern the teams have faced this young season. Hailey Boudakian had her high college game with a 244!
