The Fresno State Bulldogs Varsity and JV bowling teams traveled to Santa Maria, CA for the SloTown Showdown I & II tournaments this past weekend. The Bulldogs had an exciting and successful weekend of bowling, competing on both the challenging PBA Chameleon and Ballard oil patterns.
On Saturday, the team struggled early in the day but eventually found themselves 63 pins behind Arizona State University heading into the position round game. Despite a strong comeback effort in game 6, they fell short by just 22 pins finishing in 2nd place. The Bulldogs were led by freshman Zachary Davis who earned the first tournament win of his collegiate career with an impressive 228 average. Fellow freshman Bryce Nakunz (210 average) and Grad student Spencer Norvell (205 average) also shined, finishing in the top 5 and earning all-tournament team status.
Sunday saw a dramatic turnaround for the varsity on the PBA Ballard Oil Pattern. The Bulldogs started the final game trailing San Jose State by 70 pins, but this time, they were able to complete the comeback and took home their first tournament win of the season! Spencer Norvell (221 average) made another strong showing, finishing in the top 5 once again. The JV team, led by freshman Dominic Ortiz (200 average), captured the JV division title completing a Fresno sweep on Sunday.
Overall, it was an action-packed and successful weekend for the Bulldogs, with impressive individual and team performances across both divisions.
