The Fresno State Bulldogs Varsity and JV bowling teams traveled to Diamond Bar, CA, to compete in the Oak Tree Open and Floria Financial Services Open. On Saturday, the team faced challenges throughout the day, struggling with splits and falling behind heading into the baker games. Despite improving in the baker portion of the tournament, the Varsity finished 3rd overall on the College Bowling Long #1 (43 feet) pattern. Senior, Jarrett Smith led the team with a 201 average, finishing 6th overall. The JV team had a tough go finishing in 6th place.
Sunday saw a dramatic finish on the difficult College Bowling Medium #3 (39 feet) pattern. The Bulldog Varsity entered the final game sitting in 2nd place trailing Grand Canyon by 29 pins. Adding to the drama was the fact that San Jose State was sitting in 3rd, 20 pins back of the Bulldogs. UNLV and ASU finished out the top 5 with only 141 pins separating the top 5 teams. The momentum of the position round match went back forth and, unfortunately for our Bulldogs, finished with Grand Canyon as they completed a sweep of the weekends events. Three of our varsity players finished in the top 5, with freshman, Zach Oliver-Davis claiming his second 1st place finish of the young season (207 average). Freshman, Bryce Nakunz finished in 2nd (204 average), and Grad Student Spencer Norvell finished 4th (202 average).
Our JV team bounced back strong from a tough first day, finishing 3rd on Sunday. Special mention goes to Miguel Acosta, who bowled his highest collegiate game with a score of 277! Miguel finished in 18th place overall (181 average).
Although we didn’t secure a win this weekend, we have set a strong precedent for our main goal
Equipment used.....

We would like to thank the Norvell, Weinstein, Davis and Nakunz families for all of the support for dinners, snacks and support for the team!
We'd also like to recognize and thank Vayle Floria for all that he does to make this event happen. Covering half of the entry fees and feeding all of the kids lunch on Sunday......nobody does it better!
As always, couldn't do this without the support of our sponsors Brunswick, Genesis and VISE. Thank you for your continuing support of our program.
Next tournament will be our home tournament in Fresno, CA in two weeks!
GO BULLDOGS!
