From the Desk of Coach Preble,

Here’s the story of the recent Las Vegas trip.......

The Bulldogs recently returned from Sin City where they competed in two Tier 2 tournaments hosted by University of Nevada-Las Vegas. The first tournament was the Sin City Open and it was competed on Kegel's Great Wall of China oil pattern. The tournament consisted of 5 regular team games and 10-Baker games. When the dust settled, the Bulldogs claimed their 2nd tournament victory of the season holding off Grand Canyon University by 140 pins.

The Bulldogs were lead by sophomore Neil Weinstein who finished 2nd individually with a 232 average. Great job! Also making all tournament team, with her best performance of the season, was senior Nikki Samano who averaged 227 and finished 5th individually. Incidentally, Nikki, as high finishing female, earned a choice of ball from the Orleans Pro Shop. Nice job kiddo! Lastly, game 2 saw the first 300 game by senior Nolan Byers. Always a great witness someone's first 300 game!

Next up was the Rebel Invitational. The format of the Rebel was 5 regular team games on Saturday, 12 Baker games on Sunday morning and then a Single Elimination Bracket. The oil pattern was the very difficult Kegel Alcatraz pattern.

The Bulldogs qualified for the eliminator bracket in 4th place behind Grand Canyon, Arizona State and San Jose State. In the first round of the bracket, the Dogs faced the Firestorm of Arizona Christian University. In a best of 5 baker match, the Bulldogs came out hot and took a 2-0 lead. The Firestorm rallied to win the next two games forcing a deciding game 5. In a tight back and forth battle, the Bulldogs survived 189-184 to advance to the second round.

Next up was a semi-final match with the qualifying leader, Grand Canyon University. Grand Canyon started strong winning game 1 233-178. Game 2 came down to the 10th frame. Sophomore, Vincent Luong did his job doubling and forcing the GCU anchor to do the same. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the breaks went GCU's way to take a 2-0 lead. GCU went on to sweep the Bulldogs and then defeated Cal State Fullerton in the final. Great run to Fullerton, the 7 seed to get to the final. Congrats to the Antelopes on wining the Rebel.

In the Rebel Invitational, the Bulldogs were led by sophomore Vincent Luong who finished 10th overall with a 194 average. Senior Spencer Norvell, returning from a strained hamstring which kept him from competing two weeks ago in Phoenix, finished 12th place finish and an average of 191.

As always, big thanks to our parents! Terry and Jason Weinstein and Andy Luong were pulling for us all weekend, providing snacks, waters, gatorade's, pizza, donuts, etc. Special thank you to the Weinstein's for providing team dinner Saturday night.

As always, we couldn’t do this without our sponsors, The Brunswick Corporation, Genesis, Vise Inc.

Next up for the Bulldogs is a trip to Indianapolis February 10-11th.

Go Bulldogs!
